Bringing Dominican Tradition to Rochester, One Plate at a Time
By Latin American Dining
Located on North Goodman Street in Rochester, Los Domis has become a welcoming destination for anyone craving authentic Dominican cuisine. Owner Angela Bonilla and her family have built the restaurant around fresh, homemade dishes prepared with the same love, tradition and hospitality they brought from the Dominican Republic.
For Angela, opening Los Domis wasn't simply about starting another businessâit was about continuing a lifelong passion for cooking and sharing Dominican culture through food. Together with her family, she has created a welcoming restaurant where authentic recipes, warm hospitality and homemade meals come together to make every guest feel at home.
Whether stopping in for breakfast, lunch or one of the restaurant's traditional weekend specialties, guests quickly discover that Los Domis is more than a place to eatâit's a place where family, culture and Dominican traditions are celebrated every day.
From Santo Domingo to Rochester
Before opening Los Domis, Angela owned a restaurant in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, called La Cocina de Angela. Cooking has always been part of her life, and even after moving to Rochester, she never stopped doing what she loved most.
While working another job, Angela regularly prepared homemade meals to bring to work. Her coworkers quickly became fans of her cooking, often telling her how much they enjoyed the food and encouraging her to share it with more people.
That encouragement planted one simple idea.
"Why not open a restaurant for the public?"
Today, that dream has become Los Domis, where Angela and her family now welcome guests with authentic Dominican hospitality.
A Family Passion
When asked what makes Los Domis different, Angela doesn't begin by talking about recipes.
Instead, she talks about love, passion and serving others.
She believes every meal should be prepared with care and every customer should feel welcome from the moment they walk through the door.
Angela says the two things she enjoys most are cooking and providing excellent service. Together with her family, those values are part of everything they do each day inside the restaurant.
Fresh Dominican Cooking Every Day
Everything served at Los Domis is prepared fresh inside the restaurant.
Angela and her family prepare traditional Dominican recipes using fresh ingredients and homemade techniques that deliver the authentic flavors many customers remember from home.
That commitment to freshness is one of the reasons guests continue returning.
Breakfast: Los Tres Golpes
Breakfast is one of the restaurant's highlights.
Served daily, Los Tres Golpes remains one of the most popular menu items.
The traditional Dominican breakfast includes:
MangĂș
Dominican salami
Fried cheese
Eggs
Sautéed onions
For many Dominican families, it's much more than breakfastâit's a tradition.
Lunch: La Bandera Dominicana
For lunch, one dish stands above the rest.
La Bandera Dominicana.
Prepared with rice, red beans, braised chicken, fresh green salad and avocado, this classic Dominican meal represents the comforting flavors found on family tables throughout the Dominican Republic.
Weekend Favorites
As the weekend arrives, customers begin asking for some of Los Domis' most traditional specialties.
Favorites include:
Mondongo
Sancocho
Patimongo
These hearty homemade dishes continue attracting both Dominican families and first-time visitors looking to experience authentic Caribbean cooking.
Catering Available
In addition to serving guests inside the restaurant, Los Domis also offers catering for birthdays, family gatherings, corporate events and special occasions throughout the Rochester area.
Whether serving a few guests or a large celebration, Angela and her family bring the same homemade Dominican flavors to every event.
Looking Toward the Future
Although Los Domis has only recently opened, Angela already has a much larger vision.
Her dream is to continue growing the business and eventually expand Los Domis into communities across the United States, sharing authentic Dominican cuisine with even more families.
"I Want People to Leave Happy."
Perhaps the most memorable moment during our visit came with one final question.
When asked what she hopes customers feel after dining at Los Domis, Angela smiled and answered simply:
"Que sean felices."
"I want them to leave happy."
Those four words perfectly capture the spirit of Los Domis.
Fresh food.
Traditional Dominican recipes.
Warm hospitality.
A family-owned restaurant built on love, passion and the simple joy of serving others.
Whether you're stopping in for Los Tres Golpes, enjoying La Bandera Dominicana, or visiting for one of the restaurant's popular weekend specialties, Los Domis offers an authentic taste of the Dominican Republicâprepared fresh every day by a family dedicated to making every guest feel at home.
